It's Cooking for your Birds Night and we have a fun and interactive night planned for you.....  This year we will enjoy a cooking demonstration from Allison Bain who will show us how to make her famous "birdie balls", and together we will make a quick and nutritious "birdie sushi".   We are also developing a cook book, which we hope to distribute on nutrition night..... so if you have any recipes that send your bird(s) into a twitter, please let us know about them.  Also, please feel free to bring in samples of your favorite recipe to share with the rest of the gang.  If you do, It would be nice to have a few photocopys of the recipe for people to add to their new cookbooks.

Bird lovers can flock together for a night of song that's actually music for the birds

The March 3 event will benefit World Parrot Refuge, a charity that gives a permanent home to previously owned parrots. The facility houses for life former pets and ex-breeding stock, many of them abandoned, abused and neglected. Such animals are commonly sold privately and in pet stores, often victims of the illegal trade in exotic birds.

The refuge, in Coombs, B.C., is an educational facility with more than 700 parrots that have arrived from across Canada, and that number is growing. Since 2005, dedicated volunteers and a skeleton staff have cared for more than 50 species in 23,000 square feet of heated, indoor, free-flight aviaries. In the works is a 16,000-square-foot outdoor expansion for warm weather.

At the March 3 event, Toronto singer-songwriter Lindi Ortega will host a concert sure to be as colourful as the beneficiaries, with local musicians and a speech by the refuge's president and co-founder Wendy Huntbatch.

Details: March 3, 9 p.m., at The Supermarket, 268 Augusta Ave.; $10 cover goes to the organization.
