The All About Pets Show 2010
is just around the corner... And we'll be there!

The March 3 event will benefit World Parrot Refuge, a charity that gives a permanent home to previously owned parrots. The facility houses for life former pets and ex-breeding stock, many of them abandoned, abused and neglected. Such animals are commonly sold privately and in pet stores, often victims of the illegal trade in exotic birds. The refuge, in Coombs, B.C., is an educational facility with more than 700 parrots that have arrived from across Canada, and that number is growing. Since 2005, dedicated volunteers and a skeleton staff have cared for more than 50 species in 23,000 square feet of heated, indoor, free-flight aviaries. In the works is a 16,000-square-foot outdoor expansion for warm weather. At the March 3 event, Toronto singer-songwriter Lindi Ortega will host a concert sure to be as colourful as the beneficiaries, with local musicians and a speech by the refuge's president and co-founder Wendy Huntbatch. Details: March 3, 9 p.m., at The Supermarket, 268 Augusta Ave.; $10 cover goes to the organization. For more information, go to www.worldparrotrefuge.org ____________________________________________
